Sejarah Alam Burung hantu mongondow (Ninox ios) ditemukan tahun 1985 di dekat Toraut, Taman Nasional Bogani Nani Wartabone, oleh seorang peneliti Belanda. Namun selama lebih dari sepuluh tahun berikutnya, burung ini masih belum mendapatkan nama ilmiah karena ada beberapa keraguan. Setelah tahun 1999 burung ini dianggap sebagai species yang berdiri sendiri dan mendapatkan nama ilmiah. November 1999, burung ini ditemukan di Cagar Alam Gunung Ambang, kali ini tertangkap oleh jaring penelitian WCS. Temuan ini menambah beberapa informasi (yang sebelumnya tidak ada) bagi jenis ini. Burung ini berwarna coklat kekuningan dengan bintik-bintik putih besar di bahu dari sayap. Matanya berwarna kuning mencolok dan kakinya terlihat ramping. Berdasarkan apa yang diketahui saat ini, Burung hantu mongondow adalah endemik untuk Sulawesi Utara. Burung ini berkerabat dekat dengan burung hantu lain yang juga endemik, yaitu punggok oker (Ninox ochracea) yang terdapat di hutan dataran rendah seluruh Sulawesi. Sangat sedikit yang diketahui tentang ekologi burung ini, akan tetapi kedua penemuan burung ini terjadi di hutan primer pada ketinggian 1.200 sampai 1.450 m di atas muka laut. |

Hungayono, pagi hari, 16 Januari 2008. Seekor Maleo jantan, tampak dari warna jingga mencolok di dada, bergerak perlahan di antara tumbuhan perdu bercampur semak. Di depannya tampak sang betina, dengan bagian dada lebih putih, berjalan di antara rerumpunan bambu. Berjalan beriringan, sang jantan sesekali mengangkat kepala, tampak siaga terhadap ancaman. Mereka bergerak menuju lubang bertelur. Sang betina mengajak pasangannya agar mendekat. Sang jantan tampak enggan, hanya bergerak perlahan menunggu pasangannya. Kemudian sepasang burung ini jalan berdampingan, mengelilingi hampir seluruh luas lokasi peneluran. Mereka mengawasi keadaan lubang-lubang sekitarnya. Maleo jantan kadang berlari kecil saat ditinggal betina, agar bisa selalu mendampingi pasangannya. |

Goal: To establish a condusive environment to prepare for coconut, maleo-conservation based ecotourism development in Binerean. Introduction Tanjung Binerean and the surrounding areas have been identified as a important, healthy and socially potenial to develop a maleo conservation program which is then will be a powerful tools to raise local awareness on nature conservation. The site expanding from Lagamuru to iGualo. A land next to Tanjung Binerean called Tanjung Lagamuru is mainly covered by thick grasses. There is a swamp in the middle. Some coconut trees grow on the northern side of the swamp. The total area hosts about 15 maleo nesting pits The hill between Binerean and Lagamuru is an excellent, pleasant site for monitoring. iGualalo is a maleo nesting ground, located at the other end the coast line from Binerean. The whole coast line can be managed for maleo and turtle conservation. Binerean (or Lagamuru) in one end (North) and Gualalo at the other one (South). Next to, south of Gualalo there is a stunning cape called Tanjung Tolu. Tolu is covered with patches of secondary forest with some remnant of big, old native trees. The coast line is nice with mangroves and the water seems to be plenty of fish. The whole potentials are situated in one village, Mataindo in Kabupaten Bolmong Selatan. There is no proper information on natural resource potential in the area. There is no spatial planning of the area. There is no analysis for the potential development of the area. The proposed program is a preparatory activity to develop the Village to be a community based tourism site to support maleo conservation. Objective 1:To produce a natural resource management map of Mataindo Village Activity: (1) participatory mapping program Location and date: Mataindo village hall, 6-7 Juli 2010 Needs: Computer, printer, LCD projector. Objective 4: To identify marine tourism potential in Binerean Cape and the neighbouring coastline Activity: (1) Rapid assessment of biological richnes and local distribution of coral, fish, and mangrove species; (2) Training of manta-tow methods for rapid assessment. Location and Date: Coastline between Binerean Cape and Igualo, 6-7 July. Needs: pencils, waterproof spread-sheet, marked rope, meter tape. Activity: (1) VCO making; (2) Energy efficient tungku development; (3) coconut charcoal making. Location and date: Mataindo Village, 6-7 July 2010. Sejarah Alam Burung paling menonjol dan mengagumkan di Sulawesi Utara adalah Burung taong atau Rangkong (Rhyticeros cassidix). Burung jantan dan betina mempunyai bulu yang berbeda. Burung jantan mempunyai leher dan kepala yang berwarna coklat kekuningan dengan casque merah besar di atas paruh, sedangkan burung betina memiliki bulu hitam seluruhnya dengan casque kuning yang lebih kecil. Masa berbiak merupakan masa yang paling sulit bagi betina Burung taong. Mereka bertelur pada lubang-lubang di atas pohon di dalam hutan. Setelah mendapatkan lubang yang cocok, burung betina akan masuk ke dalamnya dan menutup pintu lubang dengan lumpur. Hanya sebuah celah kecil saja yang disisakan pada penutup ini. Selama 40 hari masa pengeraman, dan selama anaknya tumbuh, burung betina akan tinggal di dalam lubang ini, dan makanannya tergantung pada suplai dari burung jantan. Jadi, celah ini merupakan satu-satunya pemandangan dunia luar yang dilihat oleh betina selama masa berbiak yang panjang itu. |

Binerean Beach is part of Tanjung Binerean in Pinolosian, North Sulawesi. It is located about 300 km South from Manado and 100 km from the WCS managed Tambun Nesting Ground in the Bogani nani Wartabone National Park. The geographical coordinates are 0°24'6.32"N; 124°16'32.53"E. It is made of 2.7 km white sandy beach, a pleasant water for swimming, snorkling, and deep fishing with water temperature never goes below 25 Celcius degree. |
